AMG2-300 Direct-Drive Gimbal
The AMG2 direct-drive mirror or optical payload gimbal is a smaller, higher-performing version of the AMG gimbals. Its low height and large payload capacity make it ideal for EO/IR sensor testing, EO tracking tests and prototype sensor development, vacuum-rated satellite sensor or mirror testing, and many other research or aerospace and defense applications.

Design Features
Built with our high-performing, powerful ALAR and APR rotary stages, the AMG2 delivers many advantages over the AMG family, including:
- Lower height
- Smaller EL-axis cross section to allow for larger angle reflections
- Higher motion accuracy
- Better tilt
- Larger payload capacity
- Smaller minimum incremental stepping
- Smaller in-position stability
These improvements yield many customer benefits. The AMG2’s lower height allows the EO line of sight to be lower in your test layouts. Because the EL thickness is only 100mm (approx), less of your reflected image is blocked when reflecting at 45 degrees. Smaller minimum step size and in-position stability enable smaller, more precise sensor measurements in testing and higher precision during sensor pointing. With no cell and box cell options, you can mount any kind of device to the gimbal. In production, this makes the AMG2 a multi-product testing resource. Additionally, the AMG2’s direct-drive, larger-torque motors and high payload capacity broaden the range of what the gimbal can test. This helps in applications that involve motion simulation and with larger customer products.
The AMG2 is an ideal fit for several applications, including:
- EO/IR sensor testing
- EO tracking tests and prototype sensor development
- Detector and/or sample articulation in diffractometer platforms
- Articulation of beam reflecting or polarizing lenses
- Vacuum-rated satellite sensor or mirror testing
- EO testing combined with Inertial guidance package testing
- Laser and optical beam steering
- Vision/camera/inspection applications
- Lab test or metrology
- Imager testing
Due to the accuracy being less than 5 arc-sec, this is an US EAR Export Restricted Gimbal.
The AMG2 is available with no cell, a mirror cell or a custom box cell. They include continuous travel with AZ slip rings or limited travel with limit switches plus hard stops and no slip rings. Choose an AMG2 with incremental or absolute encoders. AMG2 gimbals can be made for air or vacuum environments (10-6 torr.), and circular connectors are available for tool-less installation cables.
